The South Slave Friendship Festival – which ran for 24 years up to 2012 – has returned to Fort Smith.
Organizers presented what they called a "grassroots" festival on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 to get the event restarted.
There was music at a lounge and outdoors at Conibear Park, along with an adult dance.
"This is a great community event that has been at rest for a while, but we are back and happy to showcase our local Northern talent once again," wrote Jessica Hval, one of the organizers, on Facebook.
Memorial mass set for Sister Sutherland

A memorial mass will be held in Fort Smith for the late Sister Agnes Sutherland.
The service will take place on Aug. 23, beginning at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cathedral.
Sutherland, who was a member of the Grey Nuns, served in Fort Smith for many years.
She died in St. Albert, Alta., on Aug. 10 at the Youville Home for retired nuns.
She was 92 at the time of her passing.
Sutherland was born in Fort Chipewyan, Alta., and was a teacher in St. Albert, St. Paul, Fort McMurray and Fort Smith.
She also worked as a religious education specialist. She was known to be very keen in helping the poor and downtrodden in the places where she lived.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Aug. 16 in St. Albert. Interment followed at the St. Albert Catholic Cemetery.
Fort Smith museum plans annual meeting

Northern Life Museum & Cultural Centre will hold its annual general meeting in mid-September.
The meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 17, will include the election of officers for the board of governors.
Anyone wishing to vote or be considered for election to the board of governors must be a member in good standing prior to the meeting.
Memberships will not be sold at the AGM.
