Qikiqtarjuaq's Keyootak declared victory over Clyde River hero Jerry Natanine, who helped ensure seismic testing would not take place in Baffin Bay and Davis Strait by taking the matter all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, and Johnathan Palluq.
"I feel good," he said Monday night.
Keyootak became MLA for Uqqummiut in a 2015 by-election when Samuel Nuqingaq was expelled from the Legislative Assembly by a motion which was unanimously passed for unexplained absences and unacceptable conduct.
Keyootak said he looked forward to the work ahead.
"Last time, I was only sitting for two years. This time I'll be sitting for four years so I'll have more opportunity to be a representative for my communities," he said.
The unofficial results gave Keyootak 235 votes, Natanine won 191 and Palluq took 118.
