Nunavut chooses mayors, councillors; vote in four Kivalliq communities delayed by blustery weather

Municipal elections were held in many Nunavut communities on Monday.
Much of the Kivalliq will go to the polls at a later time, however, due to inclement weather — voting was postponed in Rankin Inlet, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet and Whale Cove.
Returning officers in those communities will announce make-up dates.
Where a difference of less than two per cent occurs in the vote count, a recount will be held. If a tie occurs, a winner will be chosen by a draw.

Because there were no declared candidates for district education authorities in Arctic Bay, Clyde River and Qikiqtarjuaq and for the alcohol education committee in Kimmirut, nominations will be held Nov. 4-8. An election is scheduled for Dec. 9 with an advance poll on Dec. 2.
