Missing man found dead in Iqaluit

The RCMP has confirmed that a man missing in Iqaluit has died.

The man was in the capital city for medical reasons, according to police. The RCMP was notified on Aug. 25, at 3:40 p.m., that the man had not been seen since the previous evening. A search immediately commenced.

Officers on patrol on the morning of Aug. 26 were informed of the body of a deceased man who was found in a pond.  A short while later, the RCMP identified the body as the individual who had gone missing.

The police and coroner's investigation is still underway but early indications are that the death occurred accidentally, the RCMP stated.

The police have not released the man's name to the public.

The RCMP asks that anyone who has any information about this incident or any other crime contacts their local RCMP Detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
