A 39-year-old Iqaluit woman has been charged with one count of aggravated assault after RCMP found a 39-year-old man apparently stabbed in the 100 block of the city during the early morning on Tuesday.

The victim was rushed to Qikiqtani General Hospital and was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He's been released and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the police.

The Mounties' subsequent investigation resulted in a search warrant to examine a local residence. The accused was then arrested and charged.

The police did not identify the woman in their news release.

A justice of the peace has allowed the woman to be released with conditions. Her next court date is set for April 6 in Iqaluit.

The police investigation is ongoing and the RCMP encourage anyone with pertinent information to contact them.
