Iglulik man charged with child pornography offences

An RCMP spokesperson confirmed the police force is in receipt of a complaint about a man allegedly making harassing comments toward to Yellowknife women on Tuesday evening.

A 24-year-old Iglulik man is facing charges related to luring a child, distributing pornography and possessing pornography.

The RCMP, including the V Division Specialized Investigative Team, began looking into the matter on Jan. 15. A search warrant was used to enter the accused's home to seize evidence on Tuesday.

The man, who was not identified by the Mounties in a Friday news release, appeared before a justice of the peace on Thursday and was released with strict conditions. His next court appearance is set for June 1 in Iglulik.

This case marks the first child pornography criminal charges for the Specialized Investigative Team, which was created and staffed last summer. This unit is mandated to conduct investigations into sexual crimes involving Nunavummiut children and youth.
