Iglulik man charged with child luring

An Iglulik man in his 20s has been charged with luring a child for sexual purposes by using the Internet. The RCMP seized the man's computer and other electronic devices while conducting its investigation, which is ongoing. However, initial findings indicate that there are no other victims, according to the police.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Iglulik on Feb. 15. He has been released by a justice of the peace until then, but he must follow numerous terms and conditions, including no contact with those under age 16.

"Child sexual abuse is a serious problem across the nation," said RCMP Cpl. Henry Coman, "and it occurs more frequently than people realize. Adults bear the responsibility for safeguarding and protecting children. Be aware of who your child is spending time with online and in person."
