The public health emergency in place across the territory since mid-March will remain in effect until at least Oct. 15, the Government of Nunavut announced Thursday.
The GN has also scheduled a press conference for Friday at 11 a.m. to discuss the several presumptive cases of Covid-19 at the Hope Bay gold mine in the Kitikmeot region. Chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson, Premier Joe Savikataaq and Health Minister George Hickes will be present for the briefing.
Symptoms of Covid-19 include a fever, cough or difficulty breathing.
Nunavummiut are reminded to practice physical distancing, frequent handwashing, and to stay home if they feel unwell, the Department of Health advises.
Anyone who believes they have been exposed to Covid-19 should call the Covid hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., or notify their community health centre immediately, and isolate at home for 14 days.
