The Rankin Rock peewee minor hockey team held a successful Penny Sale and Bake Sale fundraiser for the players this past Friday, Dec. 14, at the Rankin Inlet arena.

The highlight of the event was a draw for a pair of system-wide Calm Air tickets won by Rankin's Jim MacDonald.

Christmas activities

Naujaat

The hamlet of Naujaat has released its schedule of activities for the holiday season.
The hamlet will feature everything from a community breakfast to a community feast, indoor games, square dances, ice chiselling, a jigging contest, kids' games, radio games, a harpoon throw for accuracy, women's scavenger hunt and a fireworks display.
The Naujaat activities run from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2.

 

Arena closed

Rankin Inlet

The Hamlet of Rankin Inlet has announced the days the local arena will be closed during the holiday season.
The Rankin arena will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

 

Christmas crafts

Baker Lake

The Baker Lake Wellness Centre is hosting a Christmas arts and crafts session on Wednesday, Dec. 19, and Thursday, Dec. 20, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
The sessions are open to youths aged eight to 25.
Children under the age of eight are welcome, but must come with adult supervision to help them with the use of scissors, glue, etc.

 

Big donations

Baker Lake

The Hamlet of Baker Lake made a donation of $1,500 to the Baker Lake detachment of the RCMP's food drive this year to help provide food hampers to families in Baker that could use a little helping hand this holiday season.
Agnico Eagles Mines matched the hamlet's donation of $1,500 to the RCMP food drive, which set a target goal of $7,000 for this year's food hamper drive in Baker.
