The Yellowknife Primary Care Centre has partially reopened following a flooding incident on Saturday, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) advised on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, the clinic side (pod A) of the facility is open to the public, including those with previously booked primary care appointments. However, the laboratory and diagnostic imaging side (pod B) will remain closed until further notice, with services being consolidated at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

Psychiatry will continue to see booked appointments in pod A, while affected mental health counsellors will operate out of the Goga Cho building. All affected clients will be notified of these changes.

“Phone lines at (the primary care centre) are also operational and NTHSSA staff will continue to contact individuals with impacted appointments,” states a Tuesday news release. “Information will be provided to individuals about rebooking and efforts will be made to divert some appointments to the Frame Lake Community Health Clinic, located at 312 Old Airport Rd.”

The health authority is still investigating the cause of the flooding.

“To the best of our knowledge the flooding happened on Saturday, as to cause or any other issues we cannot provide further information as we are relying on the building owner to manage these repairs,” NTHSSA spokesperson David Maguire said Monday. “We do not own the building but are tenants within.”

The release said that as services transition back to full capacity, residents requiring new appointments can contact either the Frame Lake Community Health Clinic at 867-767-9125 or the primary care centre at 867-767-9294.

The NTHSSA has asked for patience due to potentially high call volumes and has committed to provide more information via its website, social media and local media outlets as plans for resumption of full services are finalized.
