The Yellowknife day shelter is the latest Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) facility forced to close.

The NTHSSA served notice of the temporary shutdown on Monday, citing a lack of water at the site of the old visitor centre on 49 Street.

Consequently, operations are being re-established at the Yellowknife Sobering Centre, at 5111 50 St., “where services will be co-located until the facility issues are resolved. Staff are on site at both locations to redirect and welcome clients and partners and stakeholders have been informed,” the NTHSSA stated.

Meanwhile, the Frame Lake Community Health Clinic is once again fully operational and the Yellowknife Primary Care Centre has reopened, although the downtown outpatient laboratory remains closed until further notice. Both of those facilities were temporarily inaccessible earlier this month due to heating issues and a flooding incident, respectively.

The health authority advised residents who need new appointments to call the Frame Lake Community Health Clinic at 867-767-9125 or Yellowknife Primary Care Centre at 867-767-9294.
