RCMP charge Deline man with child luring, extortion

A 19-year-old man from Deline has been charged with luring a child, extortion and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

RCMP released details of their investigation on Dec. 18, following an arrest of the accused, Troy Beaulieu, on Dec. 11.

Beaulieu was released by a justice of the peace under conditions, including the following:

-no contact or communications with people under the age of 16

-not to obtain of continue employment or volunteer in a capacity that involves being in a position of trust or authority to a person under the age of 16

-not to use a computer or computer-related devices to communicate with anyone under the age of 16 years old

The accused has a first court appearance scheduled in February.

The arrest followed in investigation involving the Northwest Territories RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit and it lasted several months. On April 26, 2023, the Deline RCMP executed a search a warrant at a residence in the community in relation to a complaint of child luring over the internet.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
