Yellowknife RCMP have charged a man in connection with a pair of armed robberies earlier this week.

The first one was on Monday evening at around 9:30 p.m. at the downtown liquor store. Police responded after being told that a man was trying to steal some items and was stopped by staff members. When employees tried to stop him, the man apparently pulled out a knife and threatened staff before leaving the store.

A few hours later, police were called to the Circle K store on Forrest Drive after a man entered the store and threatened a staff member with a knife before stealing some items and cash before fleeing.

The investigation determined that the same man was the suspect in both incidents. David Maniyogina was subsequently arrested on Tuesday morning and charged with two counts of robbery, one count of uttering threats and one count of obstructing a police officer.

He remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
