A new case of Covid-19 has been identified at the Diavik Diamond Mine, the chief public health officer announced, March 29.
The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer said Monday an investigation and subsequent contact tracing did not identify any risk to the public.
"Assessment by the OCPHO is that the individual did not acquire infection from the mine site," states the news release. "All screening measures to try and prevent introduction of COVID-19 infections were in place."
With the person carrying the virus, 35 other people have been identified as contacts.
They were self-isolating as of Monday afternoon at the mine site.
The OCPHO states that the GNWT and Diavik mine management and Yellowknife Public Health are "all working together to gather information, ensure measures that mitigate risk of transmission are in place, and to monitor the situation."
According to the OCPHO, the case will not be recorded in the NWT statistics because the person with the virus is not an NWT resident.
As of March 29, there has been one total active case with 47 confirmed cases, 47 recorded cases, and 23,722 with the first dose. There have been 13,933 given the second dose.
