More than 300 runners hit Frame Lake Trail for Mother's Day

301 residents run for Mother's Day celebration

Mother’s Day happened on Sunday and it's always a time to celebrate.

And just like past years, the Yellowknife Multisport Club celebrated with a fun run.

The multisport club co-hosted this year's Mother's Day Fun Run with Rotary Club True North at Somba K'e Park on Sunday morning. The route saw more than 300 participants begin at the park and either run or walk the Frame Lake Trail to Stanton Territorial Hospital and back to the park for the finish line.

“Here in Yellowknife, people enjoy outdoor activities and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We just try to promote that through our events,” said Mark Cliffe-Phillips, the club's treasurer.

He added that the number of participants this year broke the record compared to previous years.

Participants has the option of doing a 3 km run for beginners or children and 5 km and 10 km runs for more experienced runners.

The event also served as a fundraiser for the Yellowknife Women’s Society with around $4,000 going to the society, said Mike Lee, president of the multisport club.

“The Yellowknife Multisport Club will donate 60 per cent of profits to the women’s society, in addition to all the direct donations made by participants,” said Lee.

Food and drinks were prepared for the participants to enjoy after the run.
