Man charged with forcible confinement after woman held captive in tent for a week

Yellowknife RCMP have charged a 47-year-old man after a woman was allegedly kept in a tent against her will for several days.

A 47-year-old man in Yellowknife, not identified publicly by police, has been charged with forcible confinement, charged with sexual assault with a weapon, obstructing justice and overcoming resistance to the commission of an indictable offence.

Yellowknife RCMP have charged a 47-year-old man after a woman was allegedly kept in a tent against her will for several days. 

Police received word on June 26 that a woman had just escaped from the tent, where she was also allegedly assaulted by a man with a weapon.

A suspect was taken into custody at the tent site by Yellowknife RCMP and members of the “G” Division Emergency Response Team.

In addition to forcible confinement, the accused has also been charged with sexual assault with a weapon, obstructing justice and overcoming resistance to the commission of an indictable offence.

He appeared before a justice of the peace and is being held in custody until he appears in court on June 28 in Yellowknife.

The RCMP did not identify the accused in a June 27 news release.
