Lockdown lifted in Tsiigehtchic after gun threat, says acting SAO

UPDATE: Tsiigehtchic’s acting SAO Shelly van Loon announced at 11:20 a.m. that RCMP have informed her the threat has been resolved and the community is now out of lockdown. Northwest Territories RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Matt Halstead told NNSL one person has been taken into custody “without incident.”

Tsiigehtchic is on lockdown after reports of a gun threat.

A posting was released by the charter community on its social media feed shortly after 10:30 a.m. Feb. 27.

RCMP have been notified and are present in the community, the charter community office confirmed. The nearest RCMP station is in Fort McPherson. Tsiigehtchic does not have its own local police.

“Where ever you are, lock your doors, stay there and stay safe,” said acting senior administrative officer Shelly van Loon. “I will update the community as soon as I can.”
