Territorial politicians and dignitaries greeted Governor General Mary Simon in Iqaluit on Monday to kick off her tour of Nunavut for the territory’s 25th anniversary festivities.

Starting the day by greeting Rangers from Joint Task Force North, Simon then spent time with political leaders like Iqaluit Mayor Solomon Awa, Nunavut MP Lori Idlout and Premier P.J. Akeeagok, as well as Nunavut Commissioner Eva Aariak.

Accompanied by her husband Whit Fraser, Simon then entered the legislative assembly’s chamber, where she signed the guest book. Further official activities take place over the next three days, including a large celebration tonight at the Aqsarniit Hotel.
