Fort McPherson RCMP are thanking Tsiigehtchic residents for their quick response to a gun threat situation that unravelled this morning

Police say they received a complaint on Feb. 27 relating to a potential firearms threat in the charter community.

“After consulting with local community officials, a lockdown that included the school and health centre, was initiated by the community,” said Northwest Territories RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Matt Halstead. “Officers were able to quickly locate the subject of complaint and took that person into custody without incident. No injuries were reported to police. This matter remains under investigation and additional information is not available at this time.”

Tsiigehtchic does not have its own police force. Fort McPherson is the closest RCMP detachment to the community.
