Fort McPherson RCMP say they believe they have found Clara Blake’s remains in the ruins of a recent residential fire and have arrested a 27-year-old man in relation to the incident.

The police revealed on Dec. 20 that they had found human remains in the aftermath of a residential fire in the community on Dec. 15.

“On Dec. 20, 2023, the investigator with the Office of the Fire Marshal advised the RCMP that human remains had been located during the scene examination. The identity of the deceased will have to be positively confirmed by a medical examiner, however, RCMP have reason to believe that the deceased is Clara Blake, who was reported missing in close proximity to the fire,” said NT RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Matt Halstead.

An investigation determined the cause of the fire was arson. Police secured the scene until the fire marshal could examine it.

“A 27-year-old man from Fort McPherson was arrested in connection with the arson during the officer’s initial response. This man was charged and remanded into custody. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and the Northwest Territories Major Crime Unit has taken carriage of the investigation. Charges relating to this incident may be upgraded in the future based on the results of the ongoing investigation,” Halstead stated. “This is a tragic result and the RCMP extend their deepest condolences to the family of Clara Blake and the community of Fort McPherson.”

Blake is 22 years old and was considered missing earlier this week.
