The first batch of performers set to take the stage at Yellowknife’s annual Folk on the Rocks (FOTR) festival has been announced.

The popular summer destination at Long Lake is set for July 19-21.

The first performers confirmed for this year are Ammoye, Amy and The Easy Hundo, Adrina Turenne, Big Blue, Brandon Sonnet, Bruno Capinan, DEBBY FRIDAY, Frog Poison, Miranda Currie, Mo Kenney, Ryan McCord, Sean Beaver, The David Gon Band, and Thomas Thomas.

There will also be a burlesque dance show called Glam on the Rocks, which will feature “all your favourite local performers.”

A performance from the Yellowknives Dene Drummers is also on the schedule.

The majority of the performers hail from the NWT, and all of them have roots in Canada, according to FOTR organizers.

The news release promised more announcements on April 19 and May 17, with a full lineup that will feature “something for everyone – from rap, rock and rhythm and blues, to electronica, the Yellowknives Dene Drummers and poetry.”

In addition to the music, FOTR will also include drum dances, drumming workshops and “local eats and beverages from Yellowknife’s best food vendors as well as crafts and artwork from across the NWT and Canada.”

The festival is sponsored by Vancouver-based law firm Lawson Lundell.
