Edmonton man accused of holding person at gunpoint arrested on drug charges in NWT

A man who was wanted for allegedly holding another person at gun point has been arrested for drug trafficking in Fort Resolution.

NT RCMP say they had been tracking an individual who was wanted in relation to a firearm incident that took place on Oct. 16, 2023. RCMP say they were told a man had been held at gun point at a residence in the hamlet, but when police arrived at the scene the suspect had fled. The victim had been assaulted but was not seriously injured.

Then, on Dec. 13, RCMP began an investigating into alleged drug trafficking in the community. During the investigation, police apprehended the suspect, recovering 158 grams of suspected cocaine, $4,080 in cash, a long gun and a set of brass knuckles, which is a prohibited weapon in Canada.

Leron Andrew John, 24, of Edmonton, is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon, possession of the proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm and uttering threats.

In the event of an emergency call, 911,” said NT RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Matt Halstead.
