Charges laid after Behchoko RCMP seize 1.9 kg of cocaine, semi-automatic gun

Police confiscated 1.9 kilograms of cocaine, a semi-automatic handgun and a prohibited extended round magazine during a traffic stop on Highway 3 on Feb. 24.

Three people were arrested and charged.

Jennifer Drygesse-Yelle, 20, of Dettah, Jackito Guiawan, 19 of Edmonton and Othman Mohammed, 19, also of Edmonton are all charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited device and tampering with a serial number.

Additionally, Mohammed has been charged with six counts of failing to comply with release conditions in relation to charges from Edmonton.

“The presence of a significant quantity of drugs and a firearm, again highlight the risks that drug traffickers present not only to those who are struggling with addictions but also to the greater community at large. The Northwest Territories RCMP are steadfast in their resolve to disrupt these activities, charge those responsible and seize the proceeds of this illicit and dangerous trade,” said Supt. Dyson Smith, criminal operations officer for the NT RCMP.
