Midnight Sun Complex goes scent free

A new scent-free policy has come into force at the Midnight Sun Complex. Users of the facilities are asked not to wear perfumes, colognes or other chemical scents and scented products because people with allergies can have serious, potentially life-threatening reactions. People violating this policy will be asked to stop by staff.

 

Tuktoyaktuk District Education Authority seeks members

Residents of Tuktoyaktuk who are interested in the future well-being of children growing up in the community are invited to join the district education authority, which is in need of members. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the education board should reach out to Jocelyn Noksana by email at tukdea@bdec.nt.ca or by phone at (867) 966-2255. Office hours are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Guitar Lessons through Jordan's Principle

A new program through Jordan's Principle delivered by Ehdiitat Gwich'in Council is offering guitar lessons for registered beneficiaries aged 18 and under in Aklavik. Lessons began May 21 and will continue every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Anyone with questions is asked to phone (867) 978-2122.

 

Gwich'in harvest survey underway

Gwich'in Tribal Council participants going out on the land to hunt and harvest are encouraged to report their harvest to their local renewable resource council to ensure their information is up to date.

Interviewers will be reaching out to harvesters from June 1-30 to ask about caribou, muskox, moose and Dall sheep numbers. Anyone interviewed is eligible for a $25 gift and/or gas card. There will also be a chance to win a $250 grand prize. The surveys are intended to help improve wildlife management for future generations.
