It’s an exciting month for young hockey players in Naujaat.

Calm Air is scheduled to be in Naujaat this week to size every kid in the community for their own set of hockey equipment.
The following week, former NHLers Wayne and David Babych will be arriving in the community to conduct a hockey school for the youth.
The brothers are also hoping to suit-up in a senior men’s charity hockey game in Naujaat.

 


Poker time

 

Rankin Inlet

A poker tournament will be held in the curling lounge at the Rankin Inlet arena on Saturday, Nov. 24, beginning at 2:15 p.m. with a buy-in of $100.
The event is being held as a fundraiser for the Rankin men’s futsal team travelling to a tournament in Saskatoon, Sask.


New restaurant is hiring

Rankin Inlet

Big Racks Barbecue is interviewing applicants for a number of positions at its new Rankin Inlet restaurant, including cashiers/waitresses, line cooks and delivery drivers.
The eatery hopes to be open for business in Rankin this week.


Housing election

Baker Lake

The Baker Lake Housing Association will be having an election for five board members on Dec. 13.
The new board members will be appointed by Nunavut’s housing minister following the local election.

Awards night set

The seventh annual Arctic Inspiration Prize award ceremony will be held Feb. 12, 2019, at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference.
The awards ceremony will honour the 2018 laureates of the $3 million Arctic Inspiration Prize that encourages, enables and celebrates the inspiring achievements of Northerners.
It will also feature the first ever pan-Northern performance of Juno award winners Elisapie and Leela Gilday, along with Yukon’s Diyet & The Love Soldiers.
