A Men's Fair was the scene of a touching act of family when Basil Tiktaalaaq presented the new Remington 783 bolt-action rifle with scope he had just won in a raffle draw to his brother, Peter Tiktaalaaq, as an anniversary gift in Baker Lake on Nov. 5.
The fair focused on healthy living for men 25 years of age and older.
Minister gets portfolios

Patterk Netser of Coral Harbour was given the ministerial portfolios of the Nunavut Housing Corp. and Nunavut Arctic College by Premier Joe Savikataaq of Arviat on Nov. 8.
Netser was acclaimed as a cabinet minister in Nunavut's legislative assembly the previous week.
Netser replaces former minister Pat Angnakak, who resigned after Premier Savikataaq had stripped her of the two portfolios.
The move resulted in 13 MLAs passing a motion to censure (publicly reprimand) Premier Savikataaq and his cabinet for Angnakak's removal.
Rankin Inlet's Lorne Kusugak was the only minister to support the censure motion and vote against his own cabinet.
Christmas fundraiser

There are only two days remaining to submit a funding proposal to the hamlet of Rankin Inlet for one of five donations totalling $45,000 to be made to non-profit organizations during the third Christmas Fundraiser on Dec. 1.
Proposals must be received by the hamlet by 3 p.m. on Nov. 16.
The fundraiser is co-sponsored by the hamlet and Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM).
The event will see the rewarding of four $10,000 donations and one $5,000 donation to fund a specific program or to help acquire a capital asset needed to run a program.
Proposals should include the organization's name and that of its executive members, along with contact information, and a description of what the funds will be used for, including a funding budget.
The proposal should also include any funding the organization is using to run its programs, as well as any funding contributed by other organizations.
The hamlet-AEM working committee will award the donations, which will be presented at the Christmas Fundraiser gala.
