Wildfire near Tsiigehtchic measured at more than 45,500 hectares

Last week, the wildfire burning along the Mackenzie River about 90 km east of Tsiigehtchic was measured at 27,319 hectares in size.

As of Aug. 4, it has spread to approximately 45,530 hectares, according to NWT Fires’ wildfire update.

“Crews continue to monitor this fire for values protection. There is no threat to the community of Tsiigehtchic at this time,” states the NWT Fires’ Facebook page.

Out of more than 130 fires across the NWT, the wildfire near Tsiigehtchic is the largest in size, followed by the Awry Lake wildfire 41 km outside of Yellowknife that measures to 4,084 hectares.
