Chief coroner Cathy Menard confirmed the identity of the man as Eric Grant from Whitehorse, Yukon. His remains have been sent to Edmonton for a post mortem examination.

According to an RCMP media release issued July 9, RCMP attended the scene along with Inuvik emergency medical services and the fire department at approximately 1:10 p.m.

RCMP did not disclose the location of the accident.

The Inuvik Drum was at Northwind Industries off of Airport Road on Saturday where RCMP, Inuvik Fire Department vehicles and an investigating coroner were observed in the company's lot, where an area was cordoned off with caution tape.

The RCMP said the death is not being deemed suspicious at this time.

RCMP is working with the NWT Coroner Service and the Worker's Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) in the ongoing investigation.

According to Inuvik's director of protective services Cynthia Hammond, the Inuvik Fire Department received and responded to a request for assistance from the ambulance service around 1 p.m. July 7.

In 2016, 19-year-old David Vinnicombe was killed in a workplace accident, making this incident the second workplace death in Inuvik in the last two years.

Vinnicombe's family called for more safety precautions on worksites, and the company Vinnicombe was working for, Allen Services and Contracting Ltd., was fined $100,000 earlier this year.
