With children having to self-isolate among the rest of us, celebrating a child's birthday milestones can be a stressful experience.
So Inuvik's local crimefighting squad is offering to give children between ages four and ten a special birthday message by offering "drive-by-birthdays."
Inuvik RCMP announced in a May 25 press release that anyone with a child fitting that criteria is welcome to phone them at 777-1111 within five days of their child's birthday or email Cst. Amber Gambling at amber.gambling@rcmp-grc.gc.ca to arrange a visit. RCMP and Emergency services vehicles will stop by your house and flash their lights to say hi.
Of course, serving and protecting still is the main job and the press release notes this service cannot be guaranteed. It notes that if a scheduled drive-by-birthday doesn't happen, it's likely because RCMP are fielding a call or dealing with an emergency.
