A three-day coroner's inquest into the death of Richard Binder Jr. will begin March 3 at the Mackenzie Hotel.

The NWT Coroner service announced the inquest in a Feb. 24 press release. Following the inquest, a group of jurors will make recommendations to prevent future deaths.

Binder's body was found near Big Lake just outside of town limits on Nov. 3, 2018. He had been told he was being placed under arrest Oct. 25, but managed to run away from RCMP and was reported missing three days later.

He was 35 years old.

Following his death, the Edmonton Police Service announced they would conduct an external investigation into the matter, but to date the results of that investigation have not been released.
