Two men charged after robbery of elderly person in Fort Providence

Two men from Fort Providence are facing charges after what police called a violent robbery of an elderly person in the early morning hours of June 22.

According to a release from RCMP on Wednesday afternoon, officers in the community were called after being told of the alleged incident. The victim was reported to have sustained serious injuries and was transported to Yellowknife for treatment.

G Division's Forensic Identification Services and the Major Crimes Unit were brought in to help with the investigation and were able to identify and arrest two suspects with the assistance of residents.

A 23-year-old and 24-year-old have both been charged with aggravated assault; robbery; assault with a weapon; being unlawfully in a dwelling house; and failure to comply with release order. The 24-year-old accused faces two counts of the latter charge.
