The Northern hemisphere was well-represented during the 2024 Indigenous Summer Games competition at St. Patrick High School in Yellowknife recently.

The three-day event hosted by the Aboriginal Sport Circle of the NWT saw participants from Alaska, Yukon, Nunavut and the NWT competing to showcase their skills and strength in Northern Games and Dene Games.

Carson Roche, events manager, said there were approximately 70 athletes contesting the various events, which included 18 categories, including airplane, two-foot high kick, axe throwing, fish cutting, bow and arrow, finger pull, and the Alaskan high kick.

“They are held inside the gym and outside as well,” Roche said of the various events.

The opening ceremony took place on Friday at the school.
