A 30-year-old Norman Wells man is in police custody after a string of robberies in the town earlier this week.

It all began on June 23 when Norman Wells RCMP received a call about a masked person breaking into a residence brandishing a firearm. Officers arrived, but the person had fled and the search was on.

Later that same morning, police were told that the same person had broken into another residence and stolen plenty of valuables; the homeowners weren't there at the time. Shortly after that incident, a third call came in telling police that the same suspect had been seen in another area of town. It was then that police were able to arrest the suspect without incident.

It later became known that the suspect had broken into and stolen from a business in town, but the most serious alleged incident was told to police on June 24 when they were informed that the suspect had held a person at gunpoint while robbing them the day before.

Kevin Kivi has been charged with a litany of offences and they include:

Breaking and entering with intent; breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence; careless use of a firearm; disguise with intent to commit offence; failure to comply with undertaking; mischief under $5000 (damage to property); theft under $5000; possession of break-in instruments; possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; using a firearm in the commission of an offence; pointing a firearm; robbery with a firearm; and careless use of a firearm.

Kivi appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded in custody in Norman Wells until his next court appearance. All of the alleged incidents remain under investigation and if you have any information that could help police, you're asked to call Norman Wells RCMP at 867-587-1111 or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com.
