Kimberly Fairman will be the candidate for the Conservatives when the next federal election is called.

Fairman was declared the winner by the Western Arctic Conservative Electoral District Association when all the mail-in and in-person ballots were counted on Saturday.

She sent out an email to party members on Sunday to express her gratitude with the result.

"I am so grateful to the Western Arctic Conservatives for the amazing turnout Saturday evening at the Explorer Hotel," she wrote. "Almost half of our members came out to vote for their candidate. It was an exciting race, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I am looking forward to being your official candidate in the next federal election."

The results, though, are still unofficial as a social media post from the district association noted that candidates had five calendar days from the day ballots were counted to file complaints, concerns or notices of appeal.

That means if there are no challenges, the results will be certified July 4.

Even though she hasn't been declared the official winner, Fairman stated she plans on hitting the road as soon as possible.

"I will be out over the coming months meeting with you, travelling to NWT communities and keeping the communication channels open," she stated. "I plan to include your priorities in a strategy that makes sense for the NWT and will lead us to victory in the NWT and across Canada."

The next federal election will happen no later than October 2025.
