Highway 1 has re-opened to traffic going both directions near the NWT/Alberta border.

Highway 1 at the NWT.Alberta border is now open once again.

The Department of Infrastructure posted the news just after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon stating that kilometre 0 to kilometre 84 in both directions - southbound from Enterprise to the border and northbound from Steen River to the border - will have pilot cars leading vehicles through.

The post reminded drivers that conditions can change at any time and roads can close again with little to no notice. If you need assistance, you're asked to check the NWT's highway conditions map.

As well, the stretch of road between kilometre 188 and kilometre 375  Highway 1 is back open. That means the junction is now open along with the Jean Marie River access road.
