A look back at the last NWT Track and Field Championships

Do you remember the last time the NWT Track and Field Championships were held? If you don't, that's alright because there are entire cohorts of students who have either never experienced it or yet to compete in it.

The 2024 edition of the largest sporting event in the NWT will mark the first time since 2019 that it's happened. Athletes from several communities in the NWT will converge on Hay River beginning June 5 for three days of competition. They'll all be trying to help their team win the grand aggregate trophy, signifying the overall champions. The grand aggregate winners are determined by taking the total number of points a team earns over every single event and dividing that by the amount of athletes for an average. The highest average will win it all.

There is also the school grand aggregate title, which uses the same formula as the grand aggregate except it's the total points accumulated by those who attend the school instead of the entire team. The total points banner is self-explanatory - whichever team accumulates the most points overall - and the most sportsmanlike team.

NNSL Media will be on the ground in Hay River bringing you all the action with a full wrap-up in a future edition.
