Justice Minister Louis Sebert announced on Oct. 24 that the Cannabis Legalization in the Northwest Territories What We Heard Report has been tabled in the territorial legislature and is now available to the public.
Last spring, the federal government introduced the proposed Cannabis Act to legalize marijuana by July 2018.
The GNWT is developing legislation to control the distribution and retail of cannabis, the minimum age for purchase and consumption, public smoking of cannabis and other issues.
From July 11 to Sept. 22, the GNWT sought feedback on the principles being proposed to guide the GNWT's work on the safe regulation of cannabis. This process resulted in over 1,100 online submissions and discussion at community engagements.
