Sgt. Brandon Humbke, commander of the RCMP detachment in Hay River, will be soon leaving for a new posting.
And town council expressed its appreciation for his service to the community during its online meeting on June 2.
"It has been an honour to be in Hay River," Humbke told council. "It's one of my top places I've been in my career so far. We're going to be around another month at least, so I'm hoping to see everyone around."
Mayor Kandis Jameson said council wanted to take the opportunity to thank him for everything he has done for the community.
"It's a little different trying to do this not in person, but your contributions to the RCMP detachment here, our community, but especially our youth, have not gone unnoticed, and we thank you from the bottom of our heart," she said. "We are going to miss you and your family, and wish you the best in your future endeavours."
Coun. Steve Anderson also thanked Humbke for the "wonderful" work he has done in Hay River.
"We're going to miss you and sorry to see you go," said Anderson. "I mean, you've been a great part of Hay River, a great part of the Northwest Territories."
For instance, the councillor noted Humbke's assistance with last year's visit to Hay River of the RCMP's famed Musical Ride.
"I think you're one of the top-notch commanders we've had in our community from my perspective and because of that it's hard to see you go," Anderson said.
Humbke arrived in Hay River in July 2017.
The sergeant will be transferring to a position outside of the NWT.
"The RCMP is in the process of finalizing the succession plan process for a replacement for Sgt. Humbke," stated a spokesperson for 'G' Division of the RCMP in an email to The Hub. "We will arrange to introduce the new commander to community leadership once we can confirm."
