Highway to Fort Res now fully chipsealed

Highway 6 to Fort Resolution has now been fully chipsealed.

This past summer, Kilometre 28 to Kilometre 42 of the highway was rehabilitated

"This highway is now completely chipsealed, providing improved comfort and safety to travellers and residents of Fort Resolution," said Infrastructure Minister Wally Schumann is an Oct. 12 report to the Legislative Assembly on highway work this summer in the NWT.

Schumann noted that the GNWT improved more than 200 kilometres of highway this summer, including three community access roads and three bridges, at a cost of $46.4 million.

The work was funded by the GNWT and the federal government's Building Canada Plan.

Schumann said rehabilitation was completed on the Buffalo River Bridge on Highway 5.

Plus, the minister noted work began this month on the replacement of Pine Point Bridge on Highway 5.

"The project involves replacing the bridge superstructure and construction is expected to be complete by fall of 2019," he said. "Once complete, the bridge will be an open deck bridge to better meet current and projected traffic loads. During rehabilitation, traffic will be diverted to the nearby CN rail bridge."
