Hay River makes additions to Team NT

Twenty young athletes from Hay River have qualified to represent the NWT in the upcoming 2018 South Slave Arctic Winter Games.

Sport North announced the complete list of team members late last week, following territorial trials in nine sports from Jan. 18 to Jan. 20 in Yellowknife, Fort Smith and Inuvik.

The new qualifiers and coaches from Hay River following those trials are:

  • Riella Bordey, junior female badminton

  • Trey Beck, junior co-ed dog mushing

  • Kale Beck, juvenile co-ed dog mushing

  • Anna Cassidy, juvenile co-ed dog mushing

  • Rodney Beck, coach, dog mushing

  • Therese Fordy, coach, dog mushing

No athletes from Hay River qualified for the AWG in the Jan. 18 to Jan. 20 territorial trials in Arctic sports, Dene games, snowboarding, speed skating, wrestling, table tennis and snowshoeing.

The new qualifiers and coaches from Hay River join others from the territorial trials held from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9.

They are:

  • Gaius Crook, biathlon ski, juvenile male

  • Michaela Crook, biathlon snowshoe, junior female

  • Lorraine McDonald, coach, biathlon snowshoe

  • Nicole Griffiths, junior female curling

  • Katherine Lenoir of Enterprise, junior female curling

  • Julie Squires-Rowe, junior female curling

  • Zoey Walsh, junior female curling

  • Trudie Walsh, coach, junior female curling

  • Fiona Huang, intermediate female futsal

  • Brianna Goodwin, juvenile female futsal

  • Kaden Beck, bantam male hockey

  • Declan Munro, bantam male hockey

  • Bryn Hill, junior female hockey

  • Layne Leonard, junior female hockey

  • Abby Webster, junior female hockey

  • John Hill, coach, junior female hockey

  • Zackary Horton, midget male hockey

  • Tyrell Wilgosh, midget male hockey

  • Jacqueline Larocque, junior female volleyball

  • Dane Dupuis, junior male volleyball

No athletes from Hay River qualified during the December territorial trials in basketball, cross-country skiing, figure skating and gymnastics.

The 2018 South Slave Arctic Winter Games will be held in Hay River and Fort Smith from March 18 to March 24.
