Happy New Year from cold Cambridge Bay, where the winds blow, snow glistens and crunches, and the sun stays for few minutes. Yes the sun returned for a few minutes and it is so nice to see the sun again. Hopefully each day we will have more daylight now.

Christmas in Cambridge Bay was very, very busy with lots of activities and games put on by volunteers. A big KOANA to all the volunteers who happily arranged games, prizes, music, and fun and laughter for all in our community. Special KOANA to Albert Okhina and many more volunteers – too many to list – but a special recognition to a very hard working young lady who is a mother and has a full-time job! KOANAPIAK Denica Nahogaloak for all your hard work and making sure games went on. Without you and the other volunteers it would have been a quiet holiday for most in Cambridge Bay.

The weather is extremely cold this time of year and we have had a couple of blizzards already with lots of blowing snow and winds. When there are blizzard warnings and cold temperatures, most offices and schools close. Temperatures have reached the -50s with wind chill, and we hope that everyone stays safe and warm during the coldest time of the year.

Cambridge Bay is getting ready for the annual Kitikmeot Trade Show happening February 12 to 14. Many seamstresses and carvers will be on hand to sell their handmade crafts and products.

We wish you all a great year with a positive outlook and dreams. Look after each other. So very proud of our Kiilinik High School students who did their exams, and we want to say we are all so proud of each of you. Keep up the good work. Koana to the teachers who work and make sure our students do well and keep encouraging your kids to keep going to school. All the way kids! You got this!

God Be With You Son.
