Hanson is a former Government of Nunavut deputy minister of Economic Development and Transportation and a former chief negotiator and chief operating officer with land claims organization Nunavut Tunngavik Incoporated. Known to many as Udlu, she was born and raised in Iqaluit.

Hanson, who will report directly to Baffinland president and CEO Brian Penney, will focus on enhancing the benefits from the Mary River iron mine for Inuit and all Nunavummiut, according to Baffinland.

“I am proud and excited to welcome Udlu to our team. She is a dedicated leader,” Penney stated in a news release issued Tuesday.

She officially begins her role with Baffinland in early June.
