GNWT adjusting cost of fuel in controlled communities April 5

GNWT – NWT Only 2C

Eight communities in the Northwest Territories will see fuel prices adjusted starting April 5.

The GNWT states that the adjustment is to reflect the cost of fuel, transportation and taxes.

Communities that will see prices adjusted by the GNWT will include Łutselk’e, Fort Good Hope, Tsiigehtchic, Ulukhaktok, Wrigley, Tulita, Sachs Harbour and Paulatuk.

The purchase, transport and storage of fuel for 16 communities, which are not served by the private sector, are under the responsibility of the GNWT Department of Infrastructure. Those communities include Colville Lake, Délı̨nę, Fort Good Hope, Gametì, Jean Marie River, Łutselk’e, Nahanni Butte, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, Sambaa K'e, Tsiigehtchic, Tulita, Ulukhaktok, Wekweètì, Whatì and Wrigley.

According to the news release, local contractors sell and distribute petroleum products to residents and businesses in their communities.

"This price change follows ongoing supply in some communities and the completion of the summer fuel resupply program, which concluded last October," states a release issued Thursday.

"These prices are based on the real costs of completing that program, which includes fuel, transportation and taxes. The specific changes vary by commodity and by community."

Further information on prices are available on the GNWT website.
