Farewell to teachers

Both Pamela Waygood and Robert Jacques are retiring this year after five years of teaching in the North. The couple taught at the Charles Yohin school in Nahanni Butte for two years starting in 2002 before moving to Wrigley.
Waygood said they'll miss many things about the North.
"We will miss the friendly people, the winters, the blue sky and the kids," she said.
Waygood has taught a total of 27 years and Jacques has taught for 25. They will be retiring to France.
Bison testing
Five bison in Fort Providence were destroyed between June 18 and 19 as part of a testing program.
Samples were taken from the bison to be tested for diseases, said Evelyn Krutko, a renewable resources officer.
In March, 15 bison were slated to be destroyed for the program but only 10 were caught. These five completed the number, said Krutko.
The five bison that were chosen had become problematic by returning to the community, she said. The meat from the bison was distributed to the Hay River Reserve, Fort Resolution and the Dehcho Assembly.

Other cougar sightings have been reported in the area in previous years, said Evelyn Krutko, a renewable resource officer.
