Editors note: Arts 101

Arts 101 is an ongoing feature where Yellowknifer's Arts and Leisure Editor Laura Power tries her hand at new art forms such as painting, nude art modelling, playing bagpipes, etc. She's now gone into the recording studio with veteran musician and recording engineer Rick Poltaruk. Power's talent as a songwriter and musician is obvious. See NNSL Online Music page.

Macbeth in Iqaluit

The Part Time Players have been holding auditions for several parts in their future production of Macbeth.

About 10 people showed up to try out on the first night of auditions, and a second audition night was scheduled for this past Saturday, Feb. 16.

According to Valmai Goggin of the acting troupe, there is no final cast list yet. The actors should be chosen at some point this week and will be announced shortly.

Looking for opportunity

A group of Rankin Inlet musicians can relate to Tom Petty's musings about waiting being the hardest part this month.

The four members of the country-rock band Tusk are waiting to hear if they'll be performing at Iqaluit's Alianait! Festival this coming summer.

Tusk is comprised of Sam Tutanuak and John Taipana on acoustic guitar and vocals, Leo Subgut on violin and lead guitar and Luke Angidlik on bass and keyboards.
